Happy New Year!

The new year is here and most people set out a fresh new plan of goals and things to achieve for the year to come. If you’ve been following me, you already know that I’ve been mentioning getting into Triathlons. This past Sunday, January 3rd, I took my first stab at it. Although it was small, I completed my first indoor triathlon.

The Indoor TRI by Life Time fitness consisted of a 10 minute swim, 30 minute bike ride and a 20 minute treadmill run. Since it was the first, I remembered not to stress and to have fun with it. I was able to complete 10 laps in the pool, 6.6 miles on the bike and 2.09 miles on the treadmill. I had fun with it since it was the first one. For the swim we had a few minutes to warm up before we got started. I was nervous at first but then I was just like hey, treat it like a regular swim. The water was so warm and nice so that also made it a bit easier. I know I’m not the only one who hangs on the edge of the pool for a minute because the water is cold, ha. This time I didn’t have to do that, I jumped right on in. As usual, I was moving too fast in the water. I could have done a few more laps if I had paced myself, but I am a work in progress. 10 is good for now.

The bike portion was really fun. It was in the main area of the gym instead of a private cycling room. We had great music thanks to my friends daughter who plugged her iPod into the speakers and gave us a nice playlist to ride to. Previously, I hadn’t practiced the bike too much but this ride went smooth – and did have me breaking a sweat. I’m also happy I wore padded shorts, because those saddles aren’t for this little booty girl. I had no pain, like I usually am after a soul cycle class (and no padded shorts). 6.6 miles it was!

Of course the running portion was my favorite. I could have gone further but I didn’t want to burn myself out. It’s an indoor sprint so It wasn’t necessary for me to get crazy. I had an easy pace and completed 2.09 miles in 20 minutes. Easy peasy. So for the next one I’ll set some goals and put in the work to get it done. I got a new bike and trainer for Christmas so more rides through the winter are to come!

Since we’re talking about trying new things… I’ve also decided to take a dip into the vegan life. For the month of January I am fully vegan! It hasn’t been to bad yet…. I’ll be sure to keep you posted! If you have any vegan recipes feel free to share them! Ciao until next time!
