Matt’s Munchies – Discreet Healthy Snacks On-The-Go (Review)

In light of my previous blog post about vegan eats – I have still been in search for different types of vegan snacks that are great for those always on the go like myself. The wonderful folks over at Matt’s Munchies reached out to me about their line of fruit snacks, which definitely piqued my interest. They were described as coming in packaging similar to “candy buttons”, which was one of my favorite candies as a kid (like so good I ate the paper when it was stuck). Matt’s Munchies comes in 8 flavors   and they are all USDA Organic, certified Vegan, Gluten-Free, Non-GMO verified and made in the U.S.

Matt’s Munchies fruit leathers remind me of fruit roll up bits. Like, that’s kind of exactly what they are. Pureed fruit squares on paper, ready for you to devour post workout, or even just for a midday munch. I was sent over 3 flavors to try, Apple-licious, Banana, and Mango Apricot, all of which tasted great.

The banana flavor was the first to go! I devoured these snacks after a smooth 1400yd swim with some coconut water on the way to the office. My first thought was that they were much more discreet to eat on the train. It’s not fun to eat a sticky wet apple or a banana on a crowded NYC train. The fruit snacks were much easier to peel off the paper and munch on. It’s only sticky enough to stick to the papers well, but not enough to make a mess so that works just fine. The flavor is also intact, yep it tastes just like a banana. I couldn’t help myself and definitely ate the whole pack in one shot (two strips of 7 pieces, so 14 total). The nutrition facts & ingredients for the banana snacks can be seen below.

I packed the Apple-Licious and Mango Apricot Flavors in my lunch bag because I knew I would be out all day and I hadn’t gotten a chance to grab whole fruit like I usually do. This was a great alternative and is definitely lunch box approved (even for the kids). Even if you don’t eat the snacks, you don’t have to worry about them getting rotten and mushy…. Which often happens when I get in half asleep and leave my bag in the house with the real fruit in it. The nutrition facts & ingredients for both can be seen below.

INGREDIENTS: Organic Mango Puree Concentrate, Organic Apricot Puree Concentrate (Organic Apricots, Ascorbic Acid [Vitamin C]). That’s All!

Matt’s Munchies make for a perfect low calorie healthy snack whether it’s post workout or just for your midday treat. They’re convenient, fun, and great tasting. I’ve sampled 3 flavors and 5 other flavors are also available (Mango, Island Mango, Mango Acai, Banana Coconut, and Mango Ginger) You can shop for your munchies on their website HERE or you can click HERE to find stores near you that sell Matt’s Munchies. You can purchase 6 packs for $13.50 or 12 packs for $24.50.
