If you read my previous blog post, you know that this past weekend called for my big 20 mile training run. I was already registered for NYRR’s Bronx 10 mile race that is part of their 5 borough series so I would use it as a training run and run ten more miles in addition. Well, that was my original plan, that of course didn’t actually happen. Boo! I had a feeling things would be this way from the night before as I was feeling very tight in my right calf/achilles area and I could barely sleep with my in between seasons cough.
The day was perfect for running and about 5 miles in I started to feel slight pain so I took it down a notch. I felt pulling which resulted in pain under my heel. I eventually finished the race at my decent sexy pace, aka long run pace (don’t go stealing the lingo!). I don’t think I’ll be running it next year again, though. The course is a bit boring and this being my second year running, I am over it. Last year I was injured so I was glad to finish this race pretty much uninjured….. Just with a slight pain that isn’t season threatening.
My team and I ran the Bronx today! Great time seeing all my run buds and followers!! The plan is to stretch, roll, loosen up these calves and take a crack at my planned 20 again mid week (even though it’s supposed to be ‘recovery week’). All should go well, and we are now 4ish weeks out until the TCS New York City Marathon! I am confident that my training will lead me to the finish line in great shape….
